Gabrielle Union’s regrets on the character she played in “Bring It On”

Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst appeared in the classic Bring It On, which inspired a whole franchise. Union was praised for her portrayal at the time, but she would approach the job differently today.

Gabrielle Union felt she failed her ‘Bring It On’ character

Fans may recall Union’s portrayal of cheerleader Captain Isis in the iconic teen comedy. The film portrays Isis as driven and goal-oriented. However, she could be very calm and deliberate when dealing with her enemy Torrance Shipman, who was famously played by Kirsten Dunst

In retrospect, Gabrielle Union believed her approach to Isis may have been mistaken.
If she could have done the role differently, she would have explored all of Isis’s emotions during her feud with Torrance.

Gabrielle Union and Kirsten Dunst both announce about Bring It On’ sequel

If she could have done the role differently, she would have explored all of Isis’s emotions during her feud with Torrance. However, she admitted that the character’s depiction was solely her fault.

The Bring It On movie sparked an entire franchise. There have been seven Bring It On films, as well as a musical inspired by them. However, none of the original actors and crew returned for the anthology series, so no real sequel to the original was created.

Gabrielle Union has shown a strong desire to return to the franchise that propelled her to fame. She has even said that there have been discussions about making a film.

Similarly, Dunst is interested in producing a true sequel. However, she insisted on working with the original cast and crew.

Gabrielle Union Idea

Bring It On filmmaker Peyton Reed was quite open to Gabrielle Union’s ideas for the character. Although Union believed she missed the point with Isis’ characterization, the character may have been too stereotyped without her involvement. A minor line that Union rewrote resulted in a significant change for the character.
